Protect your children from disaster
1. Educate your children on the risks of certain activities, such as swimming in open water, hiking alone or going to a secluded area, or traveling to unfamiliar places.
2. Monitor your children's online activity and have open discussions about staying safe online.
3. Ensure your children understand and obey local laws, regulations and safety measures related to potential disasters (such as tsunamis or hurricanes).
4. Set up emergency contact plans and establish evacuation routes with your family in case of disaster.
5. Equip each member of the family with an emergency preparedness kit including items such as non-perishable food, a flashlight, first aid supplies and warm clothes for protection against extreme weather conditions.
6. Create fire safety plans for the home that include fire drills so that everyone knows what to do if a fire occurs.
7. Make sure your children know where they should go if they get lost or separated from their family during an emergency situation.
8. Take proactive steps such as enrolling in emergency alert services and developing emergency preparedness strategies tailored to the risks associated with the region you live in.
